Can you coax your mind from its wandering and keep to original oneness? Can you let your body become supple as a newborn child’s? Can you cleanse your inner vision until you see nothing but the light? Can you love people and lead them without imposing your will? Can you deal with the most vital matters by letting events take their course? Can you step back from your own mind and thus understand all things? Tao Te Ching
It is my hope that when you read this blog you would take a moment to ask yourself “Are you happy?” I am sure there are as many responses to this as there are folks. I am pretty sure it speaks to who you are! Just to go below the surface and ask “Are you feeling joy, secure and are in a state of serenity in your heart to face life when you wake up in the morning. I remember waking up the other day and that I didn’t feel ready. I had the same feeling when I was eleven years old. The 60’s in so many ways thrust America into a state of civil chaos. I felt my ears getting hot and bright red at the news brimming with negative, anxious, fearful feelings – feelings of stress – feelings of overwhelm. Fight or Flight reaction kicked into full gear and these steps got me through ~ Stop! Breathe! Focus on your breath. Do this for 10 more times. I felt I needed to not respond and become a part of the chaos, but to go within to find my happiness. That is why I believe the precepts of Buddhism allowed for happiness in this great land of confusion. Now I have a real treat for you, I read “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse and had developed a passionate curiosity in Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. It allowed transcendence from the chaos, confusion and emotional turmoil of that time and introduced principles in terms that can be understood. Both of his daughters Anoushka is her father’s sitar disciple, and his musical partner; an Grammy winner Norah Jones is Shankar’s daughter by an earlier companion. There was so much familial similarities that are not culturally fueled but indeed ignited by compassion, serenity and Joy. On that note….Let’s journey together and mindfully lean into life confident that no matter what happens, it becomes part of the plan…Peace Out! JBC 😎
“Ravi Shankar’s music is like a fine Indian sari — silken, swirling, exotic,” Stamberg says. “It can break your heart with its beauty.”
